Planning 2010 House Tour

Historic House Tour and Volunteers

This year, the Silvermine Historic House Tour benefits historic preservation, environmental preservation and critical issues in the Silvermine community. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 25, 2010. The tour is a complex undertaking that is only made possible by the many volunteers, who organize, plan and present each house--and its history--on the tour, organize transportation, provide lunch, design graphics, run the silent auction, etc. and the individuals and businesses who advertise in our Program. Volunteering for the tour is an enjoyable commitment to learning more about your community's history and meeting new friends. If you would like to be included in the effort, please contact Leigh Finley at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . All are welcome.

This year the Historic House Tour Committee is co-chaired by Leigh Finley, Mona Levey, Kathy Karnell and Megan Ferrell.

House Tour Program

For each biennial historic house tour, the House Tour Committee produces a booklet that provides a short history of Silvermine, a list of the houses to be viewed (including photo and history) and sponsors' advertising in support of the community. As a service to our membership and to our advertisers, after the tour, we include these same sponsors in our free Neighborhood Resource listing on the NASH website.

Advertising Materials

Shown below are worksheets covering the details of the advertising rates and specifications as well as contact information for anyone interested in buying advertising space in the program.

If you have questions or need help with your advertisement, please contact Megan Ferrell at 203-202-7317, or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . She will be happy to assist you.

Background

Initiated in 2004 by NASH, and aided by SCA, the Silvermine Historic House Tour has so far funded five listings on the National Register. Of these, the Silvermine Center National Historic District and a listing for the Perry Avenue Bridge (over the Silvermine River) have been successfully placed on the National Register. The (lower) Perry Avenue District was unfortunately denied. At present, the National Register nomination for the Verneur Pratt properties on Perry Avenue is being reviewed by the state and the nomination for the Silvermine Avenue National Historic District is in process. This year, funding will also be extended to support environmental preservation and critical issues to the community. There are also several other proposed historic preservation efforts on our list

We are eternally grateful to the Silvermine homeowners who so generously open or have opened their homes to the public, to the many volunteers who plan and execute every aspect of the tour from docents to ticket takers, and to the rest of you, who support Silvermine by coming and enjoying this day in the country. Your help and support is greatly appreciated!
